‘Axing’ listed in competition program of Herat Int’l Women’s fest

The Herat International Women’s Film Festival is to screen Iranian feature film ‘Axing’.

The Herat International Women’s Film Festival (HIWFF) in Afghanistan has announced Iranian feature film ‘Axing’ for its 2020 official selection.

Besides Iranian documentary ‘Khatemeh’ by Hadi and Mehdi Zarei and Mostafa Gholami’s short film ‘Return’, now ‘Axing’ by filmmaker/ actor Behrouz Shoeibi has been added to the competition lineup of the 6th edition of the HIWFF, set for November 16 to 19.

‘Axing’ social flick, which will be screened in the International Narrative Feature Films Competition of the HIWFF, is about Mahsa, an addicted woman who thinks that her girl is dead.

However, when she finds out that her daughter is alive and lives with her father (Mahsa’s ex-husband), she decides to take her back. This forces her to face her ex-husband and his new wife.

Sara Bahrami, the lead actress of the film, won the best actress in a leading role award from the 37th Fajr Film Festival in Iran. Actor in ‘Breath’, Jamshid Hashempour also grabbed the best actor in a supporting role from the same Iranian event.

‘Axing’ has also participated in a number of international film festivals and won honors, including the best actress award at the Malaysia Golden Global Award and the AAFCCJ award at the Golden Apricot Yerevan International Film Festival in Armenia.

Mahnaz AfsharHadi Hejazifar, Negar Abedi, Shadi Karamroudi, and Amin Hayaee make the rest cast team.

Known as the most prestigious Women’s Film Festival in the region, the HIWFF is an annual event held in Afghanistan with the aim to highlight the power of women in different life situations.
